HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Straight From The Heart
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!!! This one is from my heart so listen up as I hopefully offer you up something good for your heart!
So you’re sitting on your bike while staring and waiting for the red light to change but your bike is on top of one those pressure sensitive switch units embedded into the asphalt.
Everything is good in your universe and it’s about to get a whole lot better when that light goes green… if that light ever goes green… and as you sit there realizing your bike isn’t quite heavy enough to trip the light you begin to wonder if that light will ever go green… and so you wait. Now unless your some sort of rebel who will just blow off the law of the land, you wait and then you wait some more.
This is how I felt these past ten months… with my health. As many of you know, I had a heart attack last year about a week after I announced the prelaunch of the return of the Crossroads title… Many including myself wondered if… well yeah, we’ll just leave that thought right there! It was kind of like sitting on that bike wondering if the light will ever change but much more intense.
Well finally my wait is over and after ten plus months of an immediate, complete and total life style change, following my myocardial infarction, I finally got the proverbial green light from my cardiologist. My heart is healthy. You know that feeling you get when you’re the only one on the line and the light goes green and you can grab a full fist of throttle and go, go, go!!! Yeah, that’s what I’m feeling only much, much more intense!
I won’t preach here but I will testify. When I woke up post surgery on March 25th, 2014 (My Rebirth Day) I knew two things. First was that this was the bonus round and second was that if I was going to live long enough to get another pass, I was going to have to make some major changes.
The first and most important change was attitude. Second was to quit smoking the cowboy killers! The third most important change was diet! I went strictly organic, non-GMO, fruits, vegetable, whole grains, wild fatty low mercury fish (loving salmon nine ways to Sunday) and chicken breast. Last but not least was more exorcising… lots of walking, swimming and bicycling.
For 49 years I abused my body in every way thinkable! The damage was cumulative. It took a long time coming to suffer what I endured! Heart Disease is the number one killer in our country today but the real good news that it is so avoidable. If I had even showed a bit of moderation in some of my bad habits I probably would have gone years more before getting my wake up call. However and just to let you know how rugged, perfect and durable our bodies are designed… It took me ten months to get back to normal and healthy.
Ten months ago I was told to take 11 prescription pills every day to keep me alive… I was also told I would be on these pills for the duration of my life and that the duration of my life largely depended on me. My attitude change was easy for me upon hearing that from the guys who just saved my life. As of today, I am down to taking only 2 prescription pills per day. I am hoping that through my continued efforts into organic holistic healing that I can eventually wean myself off even these last two pills.
Two major things passed through my mind as I passed through that last green light leaving the cardiologists office for the last time for the next year… First and foremost is that I now have as fair a chance as anyone at life which means I can continue enjoying being my son’s father and that I get to experience him growing up. The second major thought is that the title Crossroads indeed has a bright future as well!!!
Great big, huge, major thank-you from the depths of my healed heart to everyone for praying, encouraging and standing by me through not only my personal healing process but the re-birthing process of this magazine… some way more than others and you know who you are and so do I! From my heart to yours; stay healthy!
It is my renewed dedication to all the crew, sponsors and supporters of CrossroadsMotorcycleCrew.com going forward that all my efforts are to build this new digital title into everything that it ever was as a print magazine and with the new technology to take it to new heights never before dared dreamed. God willing… Amen!
C-ya… next month at the Crossroads!!!
