DON RAY BAND RELEASES KICKSTANDS UP, THEIR FOURTH CD AS A GREATEST HITS COLLECTION WITH THREE NEW SONGS
NASHVILLE, TN - They say there are less than six degrees of separation between us all… here may be further proof; and yet one more reason why we call ourselves Crossroads! We started out to do a CD review of Margdon Records Nashville recording artist, Don Ray Band’s newest release ‘Kickstands Up’. Then last minute announcements came in of Bob Seger’s newest release in way to long, ‘Ride Out’. Punch Enterprises sent over the official press release from Capital Records on the right and there’s little we can add to it until we hear the CD; other than… Hey, he’s Bob Seger… it has to be great! Right? Besides... Looking at the two album covers side by side they even seem made for each other... Kickstands Up - Ride Out...
Anyways... Bob Seger's not the only one putting on his gypsy leathers and Riding Out with a new album... Don Ray went Full Throttle on his last CD and now he's hit the highway with Kickstands Up! His latest release, ‘Kickstands Up’ was awarded Best Root/Rock Album of 2013 by Blues Underground Network. "This makes two years in a row, last year we received the honor for ‘Full Throttle’, This means a great deal to us as they are one of the most passionate music publications on the web. Thank you for the award B.U.N.!!!" And after digging a little deeper, we've come to find that Don Ray has something else in common with Bob Seger...
Well it turns out there’s more of a connection of sorts between the two artists in powerhouse blues singer, Shaun Murphy, at least in that she is in common to both of them and has sung with the two at different times. Though she's been Bob Seger's backup singer for many years, she's also shared the stage with Don Ray Band! When asked to explain more about this connection Don Ray had this to say...
"Bob Seger was a big influence on me as a young man as a songwriter and singer. Shaun and I met in 2009 when we were both represented by TC Davis's Lonesome Road Agency. I had known about Shaun being the Lead Singer of Little Feat and I was a big fan but I learned more about her impressive pedigree as we became friends. In 2011, I asked Shaun if she would sing a duet with me for my Live DVD. When she agreed I was really excited. When we filmed the DVD, the duet came off so good that I asked if she would come in the studio and record the song for release as a single, she accepted and again I was really excited about the project. We released the DVD and the single in 2011. (Love Is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6P6ZOBu7m8 ) Shaun has numerous solo CDs out and a new one coming soon as well. I wrote a couple songs with Shaun for her new album. (Cry of Love...http://www.shaunmurphyband.com/store/) We have finally got our schedules to work out and have our first concert appearing live together as Don Ray Band featuring Shaun Murphy. The performance will be at the Goats, Music and More Festival in Lewisburg, TN. On Oct. 11th. We will be the supporting act for headliner Marshall Tucker Band."
With so much great new music; it's hard to know where to start, but we would suggest that whatever you listen to first, you make sure you listen to Kickstands Up!!! BOB SEGER RETURNS WITH NEW STUDIO ALBUM RIDE OUT ON OCTOBER 14
FIRST SINGLE “DETROIT MADE” HITS RADIO AIRWAVES
LOS ANGELES, CA — Bob Seger has emerged from the studio equipped with a new album, Ride Out, set to be released October 14 on Capitol Records. The first single, “Detroit Made,”pays homage to America’s love affair with the automobile. The uptempo rocker hit radio airwaves this past weekend serving as the perfect backdrop to the 20th annual Woodward Dream Cruise, the world’s largest one day celebration of classic car culture.
“I feel really good about this record,” says Seger. “This album touches on how I think a lot of us feel about finding our place in a more complicated world – from how we appreciate things as simple and pure as love, to navigating through the corruption and violence that permeates the news. It sums up a lot of feelings I have about a variety of subjects.”
Produced by Seger, the new collection stays true to his legendary sound as he effortlessly marries rock, blues and country, yielding an album with all the hallmarks of the rocker’s deep catalog of hits. Seger began teasing tracks from the album during his 2013 tour, including “Detroit Made,” “All of The Roads” and “California Stars.”
Ride Out is Seger’s first studio album since his 2006 platinum-certified Face The Promise and follows his 2011 platinum-certified release, Ultimate Hits: Rock and Roll Never Forgets.
Bob Seger has sold more than 51 million albums and has racked up 13 platinum and 7 multi-platinum RIAA-certified album sales awards in the U.S. alone. He is both a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, and his Greatest Hits, Against The Wind, Night Moves, Stranger In Town, Nine Tonight, and Live Bullet have been RIAA-certified for more than five million U.S. album sales each. The 1994 Greatest Hits collection was the #1 best-selling catalog album in the U.S. during the past decade (2001-2009), as reported by Billboard/SoundScan. With his many successes, Seger’s music is permanently etched in the American musical landscape.
