HARLEY-DAVIDSON CARTERSVILLE CHILI COOK OFF GEORGIA
Talk about a nasty set of days. It had been raining here in North Georgia since the 2nd of January. It was Saturday January 3, 2015 and just raining and nasty again. The temperature was in the low 50’s and I had been feeling restless to get out on the road.
While surfing the internet in the morning, I had come across a flyer for the Cartersville Harley Davidson Chili Cook off, AND IT WAS THE DAY! It said rain or shine, well then rain it was. I skipped out of the house at noon and warmed up the Honda and it warmed right up and was running great. It had been giving me a hard time lately and the day before I had ripped off the outside layer of foam on the air filter, so she could breath.
I headed down to the dealership, knowing that I would be wet from the waist down, I can deal with that. Hitting the road, carefully as it was raining and from experience I know that bikes don’t like to stop in the rain! Too much front brake and you’re sliding... Hitting those wet white and yellow lines are like hitting glass!!! And cage drivers… well most don’t pay much attention.
I arrived at the Chili Cook Off and was very surprised that there was only one motorcycle parked, however the parking lot was full of 4 wheeled vehicles. “Wait, am I at the right place? No bikes.” I parked my Honda next to a very nice Harley and felt those eerie eyes watching me, a Honda at a Harley party?
The set up was very nice as they were expecting rain so they had put up a kind of concert chili tent. I waited my turn in line to pay my five bucks to enjoy a variety of hot chili and a drink of my choice. I got my sample cups out and after sampling a variety of different chili, found that one that I wanted to have a bowl of. It was a good bowl of chili and the mix of onions, cheese, and the supplied corn chips just made the whole lunch just great.
As I sat there enjoying the chili, a local band named Roadhouse was just jamming away. I had heard this band a few other times at biker events around the area and they are just great. I took a few pictures and a short video of the band and the chili cookers and then ventured into the dealership. I stopped at the front desk and asked if I could take a few pics and was given the go ahead. (Maybe I should have done this first thing)
There was some kind of celebrity there signing autographs, but since it was not Angelina Jolie it was no concern of mine. I chose to look at the bikes and wondered why I was doing this because there were no Panheads on the floor and they had already sold the Sucker Punch Sally a few months back.
All in all, I had a great time. I hope you enjoyed the short video and the pics.
