FATHER’S DAY EVENT
By Dad and Son
Peterson’s Miami Harley-Davidson’s Annual Father’s Day Event held this year on June 15, 2014 at their North Store is always a great event that I’ve covered for years. Phil, Dirk and Ace gave me my first real break in South Florida when they hired me as Service Advisor back in 1994. This year’s event would mean more to me than any other year. This year I would be attending not only to cover the story but to be a part of it.
I actually wrote the exact above words with the date June 17, back in 2007 in issue #119 of Crossroads Motorcycle Magazine. The words worked just as well today for CrossroadsMotorcycleCrew.com. I was excited! I had just become a Dad! They were the last published words to the last published story that I would write for seven long years to come; until these first published words to the first published story that I am now writing seven years after. It seemed thoroughly appropriate to pick up where I last left off, fast forward seven years. I am still excited!!! I’m still a Dad!!! Now Jr., a.k.a. G our “Editor In Chief In Training”, can reach the footpegs with his feet and has written his own account of these events!!! Life is good and this was a big day for G and me!
As G and I rolled our Sportster we lovingly call Grace off of Ive’s Dairy Road and onto State Road 7, the giant Bar & Shield surrounded by the circus like atmosphere of Peterson’s Harley-Davidson’s Father’s Day Hot Rods and Harleys Event came into view. We could immediately feel the excitement as we found our parking spot amongst hundreds of other motorcycles that would come and go throughout the day.
Peterson’s Harley-Davidson North and South parties are always great because there is literally always something for everyone but the main theme for this annual party is that it caters to Dad! That’s me and the other Dads that showed up with their kids! This is near and dear to Peterson’s Harley-Davidson’s Founder’s heart. Mr. Phil Peterson started his franchise with the Bar & Shield back in the 1950’s. Decades later Phil’s sons Drew and Dirk joined the family owned and operated dealerships that Peterson’s has always been known for.
For me personally, aside from the aforementioned, my favorite was the car chow by Jumpin’ Jack Productions. I didn’t take pictures of every car but I did get all my favorites! Check out a small selection of my favorites in the photo gallery below. The selection of cars was so vast that my eight year old son who is known to have endless energy asked for a break under the shade of a tree about half way through checking them out. I knew I was excited because I really didn’t want to stop looking at the sea of custom and vintage cage chrome. Local classic rock radio station Big 105.9 and DJ Doc Reno were broadcasting live from the parking lot throughout the day. They provided music and entertainment to the outside party and registered people for a chance to win an all expense paid trip to see the Queen Reunion Tour in Las Vegas!
Rick Sanford was one of the vendors on hand with his company Awesome Detail by Rick, LLC. Rick is a great guy and very down to earth person who is very good at what he does. Rick is an old school detailer who still believes in the power of the cotton tipped nit picken detail! I can personally highly recommend Rick and the products and wares that he offers. You can find Rick online at www.facebook.com search AwesomeDetailByRick.
Mike Morrison of Sunrise Tactical Supply was another vendor present with his son offering all the latest greatest weaponry, unbelievably affordable ammunition and other tactical supplies, including his 4-barrel shotgun prototype. Sunrise Tactical Supply recently expanded and moved from Sunrise, FL to 1000 South Dixie Hwy, W Suite#3 in Pompano Beach, Florida and is the South Florida local choice for all of your tactical needs. Find them online at www.sunrisetacticalsupply.com in case you don’t live local.
Peterson’s next big event that you don’t want to miss is the 42nd Annual Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run taking place Thursday September 18th through Sunday September 21st, 2014.
Remember to tell them you heard it at The Crossroads!!!
C-ya… at the Crossroads!

When it was Father's Day I went to the Father's Day Hots Rods & Harleys motorcycle run in Miami at Peterson’s Harley-Davidson. It meant a lot to my dad and me. It was a very very long ride!!!
When we were pulling in, the first thing that impressed me was a gigantic air balloon bulldog. I saw a Miami Dolphins Monster Truck and I love Monster Trucks!
Also at the Father’s day run I got to see a real shotgun at a vendor’s booth! Tell me if that’s inappropriate for an 8 year old boy to see!
The two awesome things I saved for last. First I saw an orange Camaro. But best of all I saw a DECEPTICON with speakers; three LOUD ones in the trunk and it was awesome.
After the run, my Dad and I went to my Godmother Jessica's house. We had so much fun! We spent the night at her house. I also got a burn when I got to Jessica's house it hurt a lot! When I got off the bike my pant leg got caught on the foot peg. I almost went completely upside down then my leg pressed on the hot pipe. Then my Dad came to the rescue after 2 seconds and he lifted me off the burning pipe.
My Dad is going to post some pics of my booboos and the Decepticon and also the Camaro. At Jessica's place we had a pillow fight. We gave each other (V8s) which are slaps on the forehead. That was the best day ever!!!
