SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!
WITH RED SONJA
The sun is shining!!!
Woo Hoo! I am finally realizing that people on this coastline appreciate the sun way more than in a state that has the sun shining all of the time. Granted I am from California and I can admit that I took that big beautiful orange ball for granted. But here where we have a limited amount of days with the sun shining and our winter is sooo long, although it is beautiful, magical even. Everything changes when the sun comes out. I am already starting to hear the rumble of thunder and I'm not talking about from the sky... it’s people who can not wait to get their bikes started again and enjoy as much of the season as they can. It may not be warm, it's still in the 30's and 40's around here, but people are out on bikes... even with the snow still on the ground! Brave, new soldiers who want to get out and ride as soon as possible.
The winters are long here... too long. So as soon as the snow starts to melt and spring starts to break, people come out of the wood work. All of sudden there are people walking around, walking dogs, riding bikes (both motorized and not). The smell of barbecues being fired up, fill the air. The daffodils and spring flowers are peeking out of the almost thawed ground and leaf blowers are blowing away the remnants of the fallen leaves from last fall that we didn't get up in time for the first snow fall. This is one of my favorite times of year. At this point, ANY time of year that it is not snowing is my favorite time.
I watched as a trailer delivered a motorcycle from storage to its owner who stood on the tree lawn like a wide eyed boy getting the toy that he has always wanted. As they wheeled the bike off of the trailer, he couldn't help but run over to help them bring it down and took control of his mistress before she was all the way down the ramp. He just couldn't wait to wrap himself around her again. Then you hear it... the sound of the pipes as your bike starts for the first time on the first try after being in storage for 4, 5 or 6 months! Ugh! The sound is so sweet. He jumped on it and rode it around the block before they even closed up the trailer. The grin on his face was priceless as I watched him come back around the corner after his ride.
So here it is. Another season begins. Ha...as I try to gather pictures of the early bikes on the road with snow on the ground, they wiz by me so quickly when I am not prepared. There are not many because the air is still frigid to be out on a bike. Then out of no where that end of season snow fall that brought us another inch the other day making all of us curl up again for a moment into those shells that we hide in all winter long. Fortunately, this time of year it all melts away relatively quickly and here comes the sun do do do do... as the days get longer and the sun stays out longer and longer, I cherish the coming days, weeks and months until Mr. Winter rears his chilling little head again. Until then...brighter days ahead... enjoy my TBT pics with my bros - peace and rubber side down is my motto for the next few months. Happy Easter!!
